Since the launch of the first generation of Embellir in 1986, we have combined the timeless ingredient Reishi with innovative approaches derived from life science research, to create products that address complex skin concerns. By integrating new findings in Reishi research with breakthroughs from our cutting-edge life science research, we continue to evolve our approach to guiding skin toward true beauty.
Reishi is a mushroom belonging to the Ganoderma family, a historically significant ingredient appearing in ancient Chinese books. Focusing on Reishi, long used for its health benefits, we began research in the 1980s. Since then, believing in Reishi's potential, we have accumulated extensive research—from cultivation to extraction and efficacy evaluation—to unlock the skin-beautifying effects inherent within this ingredient. Believing in the remarkable potential of Reishi, we continued our research over the years. This long‑term pursuit led us to discover that different extraction methods yield distinct effects—ultimately guiding us to two specific extraction techniques that deliver the skin‑beautifying benefits we sought.
It creates a sense of prestige through a bold, well-defined silhouette, a spiral design that gently catches the light, branded with Embellir's distinctive purple color, making the user's daily skincare routine feel even more special.
This microcapsule was developed using our proprietary technologies to deliver Reishi extract to the skin. With cholesterol pullulan*2 (moisturizing ingredient) attached to the surface of a capsule composed of a phospholipid*1 (emulsifier) that is highly compatible with skin, thus enabling a smooth permeation* into it.

EMBELLIR products are designed to achieve a balance between the individuality of each item and the harmonious rich-textured finish that gives the skin an elegantly firm and moisturized feel when the items in the EMBELLIR group are used together.

We developed the components, ratios, and emulsion structure of this skincare group to reproduce a composition like that of intercellular lipids. As a result, EMBELLIR produces a thick, rich texture, refining skin so it feels plump and richly moisturized.

This oriental and natural fragrance is crafted by combining precious natural aromatics such as "olibanum" and "myrrh"—ingredients that appear throughout ancient Egyptian history and even in the Bible—together with rose, a scent adored by Cleopatra and countless women throughout the ages. The result is a mysterious and enchanting aroma.

New subcritical water extraction

Subcritical water is a special type of water with temperature and pressure above 100°C and 1 atm, respectively. When compared with plain water, it has a higher ability to dissolve substances. Thanks to this ability, the new "Subcritical Water Extraction" method unleashes the hidden potential of ingredients.
At Menard, after conducting research on Reishi for more than 40 years, we believed that Reishi still held untapped potential. Although subcritical water extraction had already been used in Reishi research, this time we set out to identify extraction conditions that would bring out skin-beautifying effects. By finely adjusting parameters such as temperature and pressure, we examined more than 100 different extraction conditions. After a process of trial and error, we finally arrived at the new "Subcritical Water Extraction" method. As a result, we successfully developed "Red Reishi Extract SC*1" and "Black Reishi Extract SC*2" that elicited the skin-beautifying effect we had sought, enabling us to make steady progress toward the essence of beauty.
The new "Subcritical Water Extraction" method uses water with extremely high energy. Because even slight differences in pressure or temperature could result in the loss of the desired effect, there was no guarantee of success. When we were finally able to extract the skin-beautifying components we had been seeking, it was a genuinely impactful moment for us.
The more we study Reishi, the more its potential continues to surprise us. Its effects vary not only depending on the extraction method, but also on what part is extracted, whether the whole mushroom, including the cap and stem, the glossy surface layer, or the spores. Reishi's potential is so broad that even researchers with many years of experience still find it deeply impressive. Many plants, not only mushrooms, contain ingredients with cosmetic benefits, but we believe that Reishi stands out as truly exceptional.
We will continue to advance our research on Reishi, aiming to uncover as many aspects of its hidden potential as possible and to draw out even greater skin-beautifying effects.

In developing this new EMBELLIR group, meticulous attention was given to every detail, from the feel on the skin during application to the sensation and fragrance that linger after it is absorbed. All the items share a texture with depth and richness, and a finish that leaves the skin firm and well moisturized, while each product is given its own distinct character.
REFRESH MASSAGE spreads smoothly over the skin while retaining its rich texture, while WASHING features a strengthened foam structure enhanced by sugar-derived moisturizing ingredients*1. The most significant technological advancement, however, lies in the "texture transformation" seen in the following three items.
LIQUID transforms into a fresh, fluid texture as it is spread over the skin. EXTRACT begins as a rich gel, then shifts into a liquid that seems to sink smoothly into the skin*. NIGHT CREAM loosens effortlessly with a light touch, gliding on and spreading with ease. Each item was developed using a range of advanced technologies so that every moment of use feels comfortable and satisfying, from the first touch to the final finish.
We have also increased the amount of the moisturizing ingredient ceramide*2, which is prone to crystallization, by refining it into finer particles. In addition, by focusing on intercellular lipids, which play a crucial role in maintaining skin moisture and supporting the skin's barrier function, we have achieved a component composition that closely resembles them. These advances represent an important step toward more dependable beauty benefits. Drawing on the formulation technologies we have cultivated over the years, we are now able to deliver to the skin, without compromise, the effects collected from our decades long Reishi research, opening the way to further evolution.
In developing this new EMBELLIR group, we placed as much importance on the power of life science as we did on Reishi itself. A major source of inspiration was research on the bowhead whale. Among whale species known for their longevity, the bowhead whale is considered a particularly long-living mammal, with some confirmed to have lived for more than 200 years. Research aimed at uncovering the reasons behind this remarkable longevity is still ongoing. By studying such mysteries of life and swiftly translating new discoveries into innovative approaches, Menard remains committed to continuously evolving its products and services.
